“Through my photography, my main goal is to show viewers what they
often miss around the everyday world. I strive to showcase the
beauty in
ordinary situations whether that is because of colors, tonal values,
patterns or shapes. When I photograph people, I try to freeze the
moment and capture the emotion and expression of the person. In
addition to aesthetics and emotion, I really try hard to tell a story
through my photography. As a freelance newspaper photographer, I
work
hard to not only show something interesting or funny, but to allow the
viewer to figure out the entire story through at the image.
“Artistic creativity is extremely important to photography.
Creating
new and interesting pieces is a process I take my time to work
through.
I strive to not let the inevitable problems that arise hold me back,
but I try to flow with them. As problems and mistakes arise, I do
not
fight them, I work to move forward, growing a building on previous
experience.
“As much as photography is an art, it is also a technical skill.
I
work hard to perfect the technical aspects of my photography. A
technically perfect photograph will not stand on its own, but it can
separate a mediocre photograph from a beautiful photograph. To
me, a
technically perfect photograph does not have to be crisp or in focus.
As a photographer, I have to be able to create a photograph exactly as
I visualized when pressing the shutter.
“Photography as an artistic medium allows me to show others my own
unique view of the world. By looking at the world through a
viewfinder, I slow down and can capture details and visual ironies that
people often miss.”
